Looking for a person who is passionate about perennial plants and community education in Chicago and Detroit. This is a part time position that will grow over time. Estimated 5-10 hours a week with additional opportunities to learn. This position is designed to identify and amplify local leaders alongside site specific perennial plants to strengthen our communities health and education. Women, immigrant, BIPOC community members are strongly encouraged to apply. 

Responsibilities include: leading urban forays specifying plant identification and culturally salient plant use, creating/testing fun and unique recipes, researching science driven, ethnobotanical information about specific plants monthly. Employees will be supported in this ongoing evolving learning journey, however a solid foundation in plant identification and personal relationship with plants is a must.   

Successful Applicants: 

  • Will have a love, knowledge, and ongoing curiosity about perennial plants

  • Feel comfortable sharing this knowledge in a public setting with others

  • Background (formal and informal) in ethnobotany, botany, culturally salient people-plant relationships preferred 

  • Have 3+ years in site specific, personal perennial plant relationships. again, this can be culturally passed down by family lineage or learned through botany, plant-ID courses or self taught

  • Speaks English, additional languages a plus (Spanish, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Polish etc)... 

  • Have access to reliable transportation throughout the city 

  • Be open to working on Weekends, mainly Saturday mornings 10am-12pm. 

  • Lives in Chicago or metro-Detroit
